Paragraph Narration: I believe this lesson benefits massively from the use of technology. I believe it opens up the ability for students to express themselves as they see fit. With the assistance of technology this lesson becomes more hands on and interactive for the students. It also gives the lesson a reason to be remembered. I remember when I was in grade school that the main reason I didn’t pay attention was because the activities didn’t seem to mean anything. They didn’t have a purpose, and they weren’t engaging. With the use of computers students are able to research question that they may have. Computers also allow for better and various forms of self-expression. I strongly believe that the way a student wishes to present their understanding is solely dependent on the materials available. Some students do a better job of telling you their ideas, this would be allowed where students present to the class. Another type of learner is the visual, this can be challenging if a student doesn’t have a way to show you their understanding. With the use of computers students are able to show through various means, their thoughts. I presented this lesson to a 4th grade class, and found it amazing how many students wanted to present their perspective. By allowing for multiple forms of expression this lesson was elevated to another level. I noticed the majority of students still wished to draw their thoughts on paper, and others wished to write it down. This shocked me since I know the growing generation has a huge interest in technology. I believe that this lesson could be improved in the future with greater technological advancements. I feel that once students are able to interact seamlessly with learning and technology that learning will improve. However, it is also my belief that by acting physically in an environment a person learns the most. I also tend to lean towards a more kinesthetic style of learning, which is the Tennis Coach in me. After performing this exact lesson I would note that having an example for each group or person would be the best strategy. When performing this lesson very very few went straight for the computers. If this lesson went full tech and students weren’t allowed to use paper, I wonder how this would affect their engagement. Full class participation was seen as well as all but one person presented their take on perspective. A personal smartboard for each student would be the utopian view of this lesson. The main aspects that are strengthened by technology are the way the story is presented to the students. Seeing and hearing has a great effect on engagement. The main strength is the way students express their view on perspective. Technology allowed for a more personalized understanding.
